10 days have passed since I arrived in Cartagena, and I’m surprised at how quick those days have passed. Honestly speaking, I have been doing nothing in Cartagena. I’m just staying in a guesthouse located in the old city and hanging out with roommates on the terrace every day and every night. If we meet each other in the terrace, It is time to smoke and It means that today also will pass quickly. I’m always supposed to go out for sightseeing but I always can’t wake up early, then I meet them in the terrace around 3 pm, smoking three joints in a row, I give up to go sightseeing, smoking two joints in a row again, I give up to go to a cafe for writing a blog, Then, smoking a lot of joints until I go to bed. Furthermore to say, I’m always seriously sleepy since I came to Colombia. I think that it is because I have nothing to do every day and staying in the room where the air-conditioning is strong, I was terribly sleepy and I started wanting to sleep wherever I am.
So, I really know that It is not a good life usually, but the good reason to excuse myself are the roommates who I hung out with every day, they teach me their language. Fortunately, we are from four different countries (A couple of Australian guy and Colombian girl, a French girl and me), we sat around the table terrace, talking with 4 different languages, exchanging our own language and learning each language while smoking a big joint.
Even if I want to say only one word, but we can exchange 4 different languages, then after 1 week since we started to hang out on the terrace we could speak a few different languages to each other. My brain was too busy to memorize different language words, (even it was hard to only memorize English word) but It was really interesting to exchange language with them at the terrace. I also taught them Japanese words, they could speak good Japanese language and I really like their Japanese because they sound very cute.
I’m glad that I could join the smoking language school and everybody asked me to let’s smoke even if I have a plan to do or I’m supposed to go to a cafe to write my blog with indescribable smiles. Then today also will be passed soon.
I think if I would be the same parson as before I started learning English, I couldn’t mingle with them and I would have hung out with Japanese friends at the Japanese guesthouse as when I had traveled in South America 8 years ago. Especially, If I couldn’t start writing this website, I wouldn’t try to talk about my episodes in English. Because It is easier speaking my episodes that I already wrote that episode once and all I have to do is to recall that sentence and how I wrote it, I can speak that episode. But at this stage, I couldn’t remember a lot of words in English, my pronunciation is still terrible and I should read out my sentences repeatedly with a correct pronunciation.
Anyway, it was a good time and I want to try to say that’s why I couldn’t go out to other places.
By the way, I want to write about the best 3 things of my life in Cartagena from now, even though I couldn’t go out enough and I didn’t take enough pictures.
No. 3 Kind people and a cheerful town
On hearing about Colombia, I think that somebody would imagine a dangerous country. But I’m sure that here in Colombia there isn’t too much danger and all the people are very kind as it is one of the best countries kind people live in. Of course, it depends on the time and place, but I met a lot of kind and cheerful people and everybody tried to understand me who can’t speak Spanish well and because of that, I like Colombia.
No. 2 Cheap and delicious foods
Colombia’s currency is Colombian peso and COP 1 is US$ 0.00033. It means US$ 1 is COP 2992 and US$ 100 is 299,200 COP. consequently of that, if I withdraw US$ 500, I have to have COP 1,496,000 and I can be the millionaire in Colombia!!
So, It is nothing to do with a rate of exchange and it just makes me confused about how much it costs exactly but everything is cheaper in Colombia than North America or Japan. You can get a beer with only $1, you can stay at a hostel with around $10 par night and you can eat foods with a cheap price. So, I want to put my favorite foods which I usually eat here.
There is no doubt that fish was very delicious and you can eat with a cheap price in a local restaurant. But If you pay around COP20000~25000, you can eat at a very good restaurant and Of course there is also very delicious!!
No. 1 Beautiful girls
What comes to my mind when I hear Colombia, Of course, It is the delicious coffee!!
There are a lot of good atmosphere cafes, they have delicious coffee and you can drink with around COP 2000~4000. Furthermore, If you buy it on the street you can get COP 500 and almost all of the guesthouses have free coffee and that’s why I drink coffee whole day long.
However, I’m just joking. What comes to my mind when I hear Colombia, exactly, I have no choice, but It is beautiful girls.
In fact, Colombia is a regular prizewinner country of Miss Universe and one of the countries of three major beautiful girl country of the world called “3C” (Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia). one of the reasons of that is that a person of combined European and Amerindian descent who called “Mestizo” occupied 60% of Colombian population and There is a rumor that 25000 cases of the car accidents happened through the driver’s carelessness in 2005 in Colombia. But 8000 cases of that carelessnesses happened because the driver was fascinated by the beautiful girl.
Anyway, There are a lot of “Bonita” in Colombia who speak cute Spanish and If you come to Colombia, I want you to see it with your own eyes.
