3 weeks have passed since I wrote the post “Porque que es estoy aqui 1/2” and a lot of things around me have changed in those days. The team of Colombia lost the game of Copa America to Chili, Chili defeated Argentina after a dramatic game that included an intense penalty shootout. As It seems, I stayed for watching Copa America, I had the flight from Colombia the next early morning after the final of Copa America, fortunately, I didn’t miss the flight and I got home after a long distance flight. I’m sorry that It is too late to continue the 3weeks ago’s post but I want to write about the things I left and I want to say you the big reason why I was in Medellin, Colombia for a long time.
No.5 The Mila Hostel
I have stayed in 3 different hostels in Medellin for almost one month. as I mentioned before, At first, I stayed at a hostel at the center of Medellin, where I couldn’t use my credit card and the hostel owner helped me to pay the bill by paying his gas. I moved to another hostel in 10min from the coolest part of Medellin. But it was too far from Parque Poblado metro station which I was always sitting down on the street to draw portraits (20min by walking) and when I came back there after I had stayed at a friends house, they didn’t keep my bed, because I couldn’t talk with them that how many days I want to stay and the hostel was full. Then I booked the third hostel in a hurry and I arrived there on the 5th of Jun.
As soon as I checked in there, I felt that the hostel is something different as any other hostel where I have stayed in Colombia (It means that it is quite different from any other hostel in the world which you can imagine). There are 4 or 5 dorm rooms which are separated by male and female and around 10 beds per 1 room with triple bunk beds like I have never seen before, 3 more private rooms with TV & air-conditioner and an attic with 6 beds & a ventilating fan (very important for this room). the U-shaped counter connected between all the rooms and set ups TV, the handmade stone pizza oven, 2 refrigerators and if you check your guest account book by yourself, you can drink alcohol and eat delicious pizza during your stay.
Actually, the Things I felt the most different are All the things which I wrote above arranged in not too much space. But there are various devices to make space and to set beds. The U-sharp counter connected between all the customers who came from all over the world even already there are not too much space and close to other people, that’s why it is easy to become friends between guests. I asked the wifi password and they answered “likehome”
In the meantime, the Copa America 2016 & UEFA Euro 2016 started. People from all over the world cheered their own country with beers when they have a match, of course when Colombia has a match, All the guests gathered in the U-shaped counter and the living room, drinking beer, cheering ourself hoarse and making a big party.
Come to think of it, I wanted to make this kind of guesthouse in Tokyo until Tokyo 2020!!!!
Yes! My image of the guesthouse which I mentioned on this website a few months ago, spears in front of me!!!!
“Hey, wait, Jaime!!”
“How long have you been running this guesthouse?”
I asked the owner of the guesthouse after we watched the match of Colombia.
“Just 2 months. but we are still building and making some to be comfortable, though…”
“Hey, wait, Jaime!! Did you make it by yourself?”
“Yes, We did. Why not?”
“This is actually my dream job when I will come back to Japan. Please make it in Tokyo, I will pay a flight ticket to you.”
“Yes! Why not!?”
He kept speaking.
“I’m supposed to keep running this hostel at least until Mila turns 5 years old (He has a beautiful wife and a cute baby named Mila who is less than 1 year old).
This is the first thing which I can do for her as her father. If I can keep running this place until that time, if a lot of customers will come from all over the world, and if they will be friends with her like a family…”
“She will be able to speak a lot of different languages!!!”
I said it before he said it too, and he said “Hey! I wanted to say that by myself!!”
Anyway, I really understood that he is a good owner and a good father who achieves my dream and I suddenly found an architect who can help me when I come back to Japan and start to make my guesthouse.
“Let’s talk about our business.”
He said that and I thought that I should stay here for the while.
No.6 Night Life
The Mila hostel located one block from Parque El Poblado where a lot of young people are hanging out, drinking, smoking there the whole night and That is one of the coolest places in Medellin. And 2 more blocks go up a hill from Poblano, there are Parque Lleras which are more touristic and there are a lot of bars and clubs around there. After I finished work on the street, usually I came back to the hostel around 10pm. Everybody talks about which bar has a good party? what kind of music there is? who goes there today? when I came back there and they invited me to go to that party every day. We prepared something special for the party and went out to get crazy.
“Let’s talk about our business.”
He already said that but when we realized that every night, we were just dancing again.
No.7 Lindo Cafe
The sun came up, we went to sleep, I woke up late in the afternoon, went to eat a late lunch and took a nap again. It was habitual in Medellin. Anyhow, I was sleepy all days except while I was sleeping. I woke up from a short nap, made coffee by my espresso maker and at last, I could try to write my post (around 3:00pm). But at the hostel, of course, a lot of people there, a little bit dark for writing, and I couldn’t help play something with them. So, Just when I decided on a topic of the last post and I thought that I would spend a lot of time to write it because it is such a difficult topic for me and that I should be more concentrated, The cool cafe suddenly opened in front of my guesthouse.
Actually, I haven’t liked drinking coffee but as soon as I opened my bar, a Romanian girl named Miha became our stuff and she opened a cafe named cafe Olline in the same place of the bar at daytime. She taught me how delicious coffee is and I really liked talking with her with a cup of her coffee. She made a good atmosphere and people who came there enjoyed her coffee and talking with her and the customer irrespective of where they from and what language they speak enjoyed there and I also really liked there.
When I opened the door of Lindo cafe, I ordered a cup of coffee and she talked to me kindly with a good smile, I was reminded about Miha and Cafe Olline. The cafe just opened and it was still slow and not a lot of customers were coming, but she smiled and talked with all customers kindly and I was into her smile and her coffee.
I spent a lot of times there because the topic was so difficult, but she didn’t say anything even if I just ordered a cup of coffee, we talked a lot of things when I didn’t come to mind some words, then I could finish writing the last post.

Thank you Laula for good Tinto and providing me a good place.
I’m sure that your cafe is gonna be a good business and your coffee with your smile is the best coffee in Medellin.
Thank you for reading it till the end. This is the 7 biggest reason of “Porque que es ester aquí (That’s why I’m here)” in Colombia. Of course, those 7 reasons based on lots of beautiful Colombian girls that were there. Those days after I missed my flight, I lost my one year plan, and I didn’t know what I should do, it seemed to have an opportunity to think what I want to do exactly, especially “Mila Hostel” made me sure “I really want to open guest house in Tokyo”, “I want to have family like them” and also, “I want to run a guest house in Colombia”
In the end, we couldn’t talk about our business seriously because when we realized every night, we were just dancing again. But I want to come back to Colombia as soon as I save some money and I’m supposed to make a big business with them.
Then, I want to be reminded of those days when I really can make a business and dance with them again in the future.
Then, I also want to say: “thank you for giving me food at that time” to the woman who gave me a stick of pork and I cried while eating it. (I went to the same place where I met her at the last day in Colombia but because of it was Sunday or it was too late I couldn’t find her.)
Thank you Colombia one of my favorite countries in the world!!
See you later!!
